Tomorrow, Buenos Aires

It’s finally happening. Tomorrow, at 1530 EDT, I leave for Atlanta to get a plane to Buenos Aires, Argentina. I have packed quickly and lightly. I’m taking the camera plus extra lens, but I have decided against taking the laptop. I have never traveled internationally with a laptop but I actually toyed with the thought of it this time since this will be a working holiday. I need to get my NaNoWriMo story outlined for this year. I had also planned on editing and finishing last year’s. If I finish it, it’ll be a year after the fact and without the whole of the previous work before me. It doesn’t fit on Google Docs. I tried that already.

I’m oddly nervous. I’ve traveled a lot before, but never to South America. Will I find everything as planned? Will my Spanish be good enough? Will I have brought everything I need? Will I like it? Will petty crime be minimal enough? Will i have enough money? Is it easy enough to get around. The plane ride from Atlanta seems like such a long way for a plane to go without refueling. I know. These are rookie worries and I’ll settle down as soon as it’s underway, one thing at a time. But I’m stepping out on an undiscovered continent (for me) and I’m really a wuss when it comes to travel. I do what I know easily, but this is all new and I’ve never done it before. I hope I use my trenchcoat. It may be too much to pack, but it’s a perfect spring jacket and I don’t want to hit the ground needing anything.

They tell me my apartment is in the best part of town. I won’t rest until I’m firmly ensconced in it with the Paris of the South calling outside.
