Persistent Renewals
I got a notice from National Geographic some days ago urging me to renew my magazine subscription. I intend to keep renewing it so I put in next to my keyboard in the pile of Things To Deal With once I have a second away from the mess my life is. I was at the Starbucks this morning, quickly reaching saturation with the legal jargon I was supposed to be learning. In an attempt to keep ym eyes open, I decided to renew a library book. In taking my library card out of my wallet, my National Geographic membership card tumbled out. I couldn’t help glancing at it as I put it back in. It clearly reads “2009-2010″ at the very top.
Damn! Instantly, I was furious. How come I’m receiving pleas to renew if I’m subscribed through next year??? What gives? Is this on purpose on the part of magazines, museums, whoever else takes subscription fees? Do they just hope you’ll lose track of when you’re really due and just keep paying and paying and paying?
I hate being annoyed by unnecessary things. I’m very, very busy and constantly exhausted. Whoever dares take even an instant of my awareness away on ridiculous tripe had better watch out. I may unsubscribe just to spite them. Don’t think I will, National Geographic? Try me.
