Electioneering

I voted. I left work early to do it I figure it cost me about $60 pre-tax to do it but I’m glad I didn’t have to rush. I was surprised there was no line at my polling place. It’s at an old folks’ home and the station was full of unsmiling old ladies who must also live at the residence and they were busy discussing their neighbors to really care much for what I did. I probably could have voted twice. Vote early, vote often.

There was a line of about 12 people for the last presidential election and I was surprised there was no one there but me this time, what with the news awash with stories of people waiting for hours in line. Everyone must have had the same idea and showed up early this time around. I cast my vote on the old-fashioned voting machine. No touch screens here. Though it was probably as old as her, the only other voter there was screeching on about needing help with it. I wished I had a decent camera on my phone to take a picture of the panel before I hit the big, green VOTE button.

I stopped by Starbucks afterwards for my free coffee. It was pretty awesome to show up and just say, “I voted, can I get my free coffee?” and have the girl behind the counter say “Sure.” Then I swung by Whole Foods, admired their beautiful but overpriced produce and neglected my intent to buy dinner. Instead, I got chickpea flour and I fully intend to make socca this weekend. After that, I somehow had enough energy to go to the gym and watch some CNN before coming home, work on my NaNoWriMo story (which sucks, but I think that’s the point), and pack lunch and finish off my roasted garlic spread. The bread for the bread pudding is coming along beautifully. It’s nice and stale.

Overall a good Election Day. We’ll see how the headlines run tomorrow but it looks like Pennsylvania has gone Obama.
