Sawdust
When iTunes informed me that there was a new Killers album coming out, I immediately signed up to pre-order it. They’re one of the few bands that I’ll buy any and all their stuff blindly. The album isn’t ann all-new album, but rather a collection of outtakes and extras they’ve had lying around, such as songs that up to now have existed live. Albums like this are rarely a band’s best work and are usually filled with more misses than hits and are usually sold just to capitalize on a band’s popularity. I downloaded it, listened to a couple of songs and then forgot about it. I was busy discovering other music and the computer was brand new.

I listened to it yesterday and made a discovery: it’s a great album. It’s much better than it has any right to be. Granted it does have some overlong remixes of their popular songs and versions of already-released songs like “Glamorous Indie Rock and Roll” but there are gems on it, visions, songs that qualify as non-filler, all-new material and they’re awesome. The favorites: “Leave the Bourbon on the Shelf”, “Sweet Talk”, “Under the Gun”, “Show You How”, “Move Away”, “Daddy’s Eyes”, and “Romeo and Juliet”. Some reviews I’ve read make reference to the originals of some songs like “Shadowplay” are better but I’ve never heard them and probably never will. The Killers’ versions sound alright to me.They’re my favorite band working right now while I still admit Radiohead is still the best.
