Preventable Errors

Re “Not Paying for Medical Errors” (editorial, Aug. 21):
The proposed new Medicare rules that would refuse payment for medical errors need to ensure that the patients themselves don’t end up bearing the costs.
It seems inconsistent that the Bush administration is trying to relieve Medicare of part of its financial liability while it tirelessly promotes stripping the actual victims of their ability to recover full damages for pain and suffering through medical malpractice suits.
