Evenings
I’m set to leave the house soon to go to work. It’s the maiden voyage of the sporadic evening shifts, 1500-2300. I’m in a good mood today because I just found out The Killers are going to be in the vicinity in late April. I signed up to their fan club so I can get a stab at the presale tickets that go on sale tomorrow morning at 10AM. So regardless of how this shift goes, I need to be up early tomorrow. I just wrote myself a little note to put that weekend in April in the request book so I don’t get scheduled for some horrid shift on those days. I need this.
There is a safety net, though. I have work friends and the deal has been struck that we’ll take each other’s shifts when necessary instead of having to put the request on the whiteboard or asking people who hate us. I believe there’s seriously some ageism or something going on. Because we’re the younger crowd who have spoken up for our rights instead of just taking it like nurses have for so long, we’ve been earmarked to get the crappy shifts and have no one take our requests. Fine. We have our own group now and it’s up to us to make each others’ days easier since no one else will. It’s the changing of the old guard. And I think some people resent that.
Now time to go out into the freezing Canadian winds and get some lunch.
