On New Year’s Day

I think they cancelled the parade this morning. When I went out to get coffee, there were only soaked bleachers in the rain and some characters wandering around aimlessly. The first day of the year, it rained.

Why do even make a big deal about this holiday anyway? It happens when it does because we use the Julio-Gregorian calendar. If we used a different one, it would be another day. I didn’t feel much this morning as I walked from my apartment to the Starbucks, just the echo of the silent streets.

Lawyers and businessmen who just couldn’t take a day off were at the coffee shop conducting business. I took a step forward in regaining something I’ve lost and proofread a manuscript I haven’t looked at in two years. Two years is too long. This changes now. I guess I just made a New Year’s resolution.

I mooched off a free network and read the New York Times, was appalled that anyone could take any joy in someone else’s death and was forced to meditate on the day. 2006 really stunk, current event-wise, and there’s no reason to think it’ll be any better, but have a great party regardless.

I recorded the stream from Virgin Radio UK last night and am listening to it right now. It’s great.
