Goodbye, Grace
I bought an iBook laptop in the fall of 2001 just after getting back from a summer in the UK. I was tired of moving my green iMac DV everywhere I went. It cost be $1700 and I named it Grace and I loved it. It was a tiny 12″, white, deceptively rugged, and most importantly, light. It dual-booted in Mac OS 9 and the fairly new X. I adored it. In spite of its small screen, it became my workhorse. I recreated this site on it numerous times. It went to coffeeshops with me and from coast to coast. It burned CDs and it housed my first version of iTunes… and iTools.
At first, I made room by erasing old programs. I bought more RAM, I tracked down and installed an old Airport card since it hadn’t shipped with one. I had to replace the battery. I couldn’t keep up. Ever since I bought a 20-inch iMac in May of 2004, my trusty iBook grew older and older and I couldn’t really install new programs on it with the exception of iTunes since its hardware is outdated. This past Monday, I’ve done what I once considered unthinkable and replaced it. I’m currently looking for a new home for Grace. It’s in great condition as I’ve loved and fretted over it for years. It’s my fault. It does what it should still very capably. I’ve just become restless. Goodbye and thanks, Grace. They were 5 great years.
