March in London

In March, I want to go back to London. It’s been over four years since I was in the UK last. For a while, I was going practically every year. What’s happened since is I’ve rediscovered Italy, the British pound costs too much, and I wanted to “broaden my horizons”. I can’t stay away for much longer. While I know London does not equal the rest of the UK, it’s the most accessible, a city I know so well I no longer need a map in the central parts of town north of the river. I’m in the very beginning of planning stages and I won’t have much time thanks to my having been away for much of October. They don’t let me out of work much.

I’ve started to talk about it with a potential travel buddy and I’m dying to see Westminster reaching for the sky, crammed full of important corpses, the Houses of Parliment sulking beside the Thames, the line in front of Buckingham, the pigeons in Trafalgar Square, the crowded streets of Soho, the cache of loot that is the British Museum, the sophistication of the Victoria and Albert, posh Chelsea, cool Camden Lock Market, the odd newness of the Docklands and the gritty East London. I think I’ve “seen” everything “important” but it feels comfortable in spite of the outrageous prices. I’m longing to, dying to go back and see what is the world’s coolest city. Paris may be more beautiful, Rome older, New York more hip, but London owns cool. I’ll be sure to take my trusty London A to Z but this map of London tourist attractions helped remind me quickly where everything is along the bends of the silted Thames and how badly I want to see it again. It’s been much, much too long.
