Happy Birthday to the Hard Disk

The hard disk drive turns 50: “Silicon Valley turns out to mark today’s 50th anniversary of the computer hard disk drive technology.

Where would we be without? The thing that keeps our text files, websites, pictures, movies, applications at the ready? The digital bookshelf. The treasury box. Without it, computers would be constantly spinning their wheels and iPods would be empty. Flash memory thinks it’s all that but when it comes to massive storage, no one has unseated the hard disk. Happy birthday, friend.
