The Grammy Awards 2006

The night belonged to the world’s biggest, best, and greatest rock band. I didn’t expect them to win Album of the Year because usually someone I hate does (this year the winner of the most hated category is surely Mariah Carey). Remember that Ray Charles fiasco last year? But I’m glad U2 got it. Kanye West wouldn’t have bothered me in the least, but like Bono said, someday it’ll be his turn too. U2 has 30 years on him. There’s time enough.

Bono seemed nervous or the worse for drink or something. His usual flair for words was a bit off in that he didn’t seem quite sure what he wanted to say. But he did say something that struck me as very wise. He spoke about his father and said that was the bomb in the album’s title and his father dying is what he’s been screaming about for the past few years, but now, it’s time to stop. Grief can’t go on forever. It needs to stop. He gave me chills when he said that. It was very, very wise.

P.S. Coldplay, who I loved in concert last August, really stunk. And it wasn’t just Chris Martin’s hair. Why does he have to be so bizarre? Stripped down like their music is what works and that’s what made them famous, not all the square thrashing around.

P.P.S. I don’t know what people see in Springsteen. He may have been a great stadium rocker once, now he’s all washed up. I don’t care about meaningfulness etc. He’s committed the cardinal sin in any entertainer which is to be boring. To take your work seriously is paramount, but to do the same with yourself is idiocy.

U2 deserved to win! I agree with your comment on Coldplay. I didn’t like their performance. I’m a huge fan of both fans and Coldplay should have been a more stripped down performance. U2 was awesome with Mary J. Blige. I immediately bought the song from iTunes when I heard it.

LOL at your Mariah comment. She too was on my most hated category.
