The Keynote

The great keynote address at Macworld in San Francisco. I rushed home after work to watch the stream, poured myself a drink, and forgot all about that Fed Ex package that’s lost. Watching Steve Jobs introduce new stuff is always fun. Now that the keynote’s over, the complaining has begun in earnest. There was even a dig at the rumor mills within the keynote.

The update to iLife sounds so good, I may have to go in on it, my first purchase of an iLife outside of an OS upgrade or a new computer purchase. The new iMacs and Powerbooks with Intel processors were the big news and I’d like to try one out just to see the speed boost. The Powerbook line really, really needed it. As Steve said, they’ve been trying to speed it up for the longest and that may have been the single biggest reason they decided to go for the switch.

There were multiple other announcements and as usual, he makes you want them by the way he presents them, but the biggest thing for me wasn’t by Apple at all but by Adobe. The new Lightroom. I downloaded the beta and have been playing around with it. I wish I could get a copy of Aperture to try it out. With a new digital camera, I’m going to need new RAW conversion and file management software since from a few hundred pictures, it’ll easily go to thousands. Adobe says they’re taking suggestions for the final product and I’ll get working on that. Their pricing will be interesting, though.
