PHL Sucks
I know I sound like a real Scrooge lately, but there has been so much crap going on, I need to vent. What I really need is a vacation, but anyway…
The Philadelphia airport is the most abysmal excuse for an international hub, I can’t believe it. It took almost an hour yesterday to get my bag. On my way home, we were frustrated cuz it took about 15 minutes due to traffic. An then there was the whole deicing incident. What is going on there? Last year, people were stranded there by the hundreds due to a mild storm AND all luggage was stranded because the baggage handlers organized a sick out… on December 23rd. Whoever is in charge needs to fix this. I have some amazing bad luck, but it isn’t just me and it isn’t just this year. It’s a pattern of behavior that has been going on for far too long. The ground transportation people are a bunch of morons as well. I had to try and talk to these people last year when I was once again stranded and had to use the airline voucher to get home on a van. No one talked to me, they just grunted in the direction of the telephone. I thought I was having an out of body experience. SPEAK ENGLISH! I am, aren’t I? I was starting to doubt my own sanity then. Perhaps I had broken out in Italian and somehow hadn’t noticed, by the way they acted. Completely nonhelpful and they acted like I was bothering them by asking them to perform some job duties. I guess I asked too much. This isn’t laid-back-to-a-fault Mediterranean behavior, like a friend who was trying to help suggested. This is something else. And something has to get done about it. I’m starting to consider flying out of Newark if only it wasn’t for the 2 hour train ride (TWO HOURS FOR 80 MILES… that’s another rant).
My streak continues when I get hom ethis time around much later than I’d planned because of the stupid bag. My wireless network’s dead. Not just the usual due to interference dead, but dead dead. The computer recognizes it but then says there was an error connecting. And the base station, which I just hard reset, isn’t being recognized at all. It isn’t the Airport card because I’m on the internet now using a slow public network. It’s the base. Was there a storm when I was gone and it blew out the station? It’s plugged directly into an outlet, making the hard reset much harder due to the amount of manual dexterity required.
That’s it.
