Gallia est omnis divisa in partes tres
I’m currently reading “The Gallic War” by Julius Caesar. The weight of years is amazing. Through the neat, articulate descriptions of the Gallic campaign, I imagine Caesar in a tent in the cold Gallic winter writing this so people in Rome would begin to accept what his ambition demanded. This and “The Civil War” have survived through the years but so much has been lost. It’s said he wrote poetry, but I’ve never been able to find any. What would this genius war commander have to say in Latin poetry? This ambitious man with an important name but no money to match that of the wealthy in the Senate. I wish more had lived through the Middle Ages.
