Good on the IRA and all involved in this.
Now, will the Loyalist paras do the same? They’re every bit as much terrorist organizations as the IRA. I’ve never understood why they’ve never been called by their true name and even go by the much more righteous-sounding “loyalists”. But as thisop-ed piece says, the IRA has had true grievances and they must not be ignored. Ignoring people when they ask for fairness just forces them to take up arms again. The biggest mistake that can come from this is for those in power to scoff at nationalists as if they were troublesome peasants and that they should just shut up and go away. That attitude fosters anger and frustration until it bursts out into what the elite haughtily and righteously call “terrorism”.
