Chief Justice?
It was a pretty neat trick there how Bush managed to nominate Roberts to Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court. Neat trick, being in the midst of a huge natural disaster and the press that’s gotten. Neat… and obvious. It drives home how Bush never takes his eye off the prize: his own idea of prestige, his so-called legacy. It’s high profile and another example of how he tries to shove in the back door what he can’t get through the front, and incredibly arrogant which is what his true legacy will be. Did he think he’d be able to hoodwink Congress into allowing this to happen given how there has been resistance to allowing Roberts onto the Court at all.
Chief Justice is the ultimate promotion for a judge. You’d think, as in all other high positions in business everywhere, that those promoted would be moved up not because of their “hard work” alone, but experience and dues paid in time served. This man is 50 and isn’t even on the Supreme Court at all. How dare anyone think for a moment he can be considered for the top spot? What new arrogance is this? Or is this some childish game of a staring match with Democrats? It would be bad enough if it had happened alone, but at a time when someone really needs to wear the pants in the White House while the Gulf States have been devastated, it’s tragic and insulting. Just who does this jackass think he is? Is this all a game to him? What exactly is his damage? I’m befuddled.
