Wish List

A sibling, who had previously used only those ugly, cheap things called PCs, has purchased an iBook. The move to Mac has inspired me to take a hard look at the platform I’ve been using for 21 years. I love my Macs. 4 computers on (in my early days of use, I was in the single digits of age) I’ve never had a serious problem that I haven’t been able to fix. So what do I wish this morning for the Mac?

1. Software Update for non-Apple programs. Imagine a Software Update for ALL your programs. I just hate going to a website and seeing their not-so-new update has a feature I’ve been longing for.

2. I actually do love Spotlight. Can it be better implemented throughout all programs?

3. An Apple-created HTML editor. It doesn’t have to be big.

4. Even tighter cohesion of iLife apps. A mutual library would be nice.

5. iPhoto being able to scale down pictures and saving them as such wherever you like on the hard disk.

6. Automatic thumbnails!

There have been a few bumps along the way, such as the current inability of the two Macs to communicate over the network. But most of the time, there are no issues at all (which is why when something does go wrong, it’s such a big tragedy for me). It’s still “From My Cold Dead Hands” though the Mac is going through a huge renaissance in popularity. But I also think the smallness is why Apple is so excellent, because to survive amongst the big fish, it has to be better. I just hope that remains true.
