Dublin in Rain

Rain. Yeah, rain, though not so much to keep the line small. It’s about 10AM and I hear via text message from a friend in line there are about 500 people there. Since it’s hard to estimate people amount by a glance, I’m being pessimistic and thinking there are many more. I don’t care much about BEINGONTHERAILORNOTHINGMAN! I’m just leary of crowds, especially after London in 2001. I’m scared about the weather, the camera situation, amd meeting up with people. Cellphones do help… a lot.

I’m excited and freaked and everything. It’s all insane right now. My hostess has to work so I’ll be meeting her at the GPO at 1PM. Methinks we’ll be far down in the pitch. We really don’t care. I just don’t want to get shoved by the sizable American contingent.

My HUGE NEWS of the update: The train I take home passes right by Croke. Right by as in the train stops when there’s a match on so the people on the train can take a peek in. I’d been at Croke in the morning, but then went shopping and was due to meet my hosts at the house that night. I all but forgot about Croke… until the train passed by it and I heard clear as the sky was Wednesday… guitar notes and that Voice that pulls and winks and flirts. I heard him… singing. I don’t know what it was. It wasn’t a full band of any song. I just heard it and I felt my knees (it was a standing room only train) wobble. If a snatch of the soundcheck does this to me, imagine what tonight will do if I in my princess way of thinking and being can get past the being uncomfortable part. Right now they’re playing a U2 mix on the PA of this internet shop. They’re EVERYWHERE. They’re being sold like shamrocks. The people on the train didn’t so much as bat an eyelash and I know they heard the sound same as me.

Ireland has a way of stoning its own prophets while they’re alive. I was at the James Joyce Ulysses exhibit at the National Library yesterday and it was very respectful etc. I thought, only recently has Joyce been fully accepted by the Irish state. They weren’t very good to him while he was alive. I have a feeling the same will happen here. Right now, U2 is used as a marketing technique and a product to sell, but not fully appreciated or accepted by the Irish people. I’m heard two stories now of friend of a friend somehow being related to the band (I’ll tell you all later in person). They’re sniffed off as if they’d done something unacceptable which I guess in a way they have… they’re successful.

No DART trains to the south tomorrow. They say they’re to repair the line. B and Edge must be breathing a sigh of relief. I’ve been by the Clarence a few times since this is where this net shop is and I haven’t seen anyone or anything. I guess I’m off now to get money to pay back for the ticket and get an umbrella. I may swing by Croke to check it out but it’s so far from the city center and not the best of walks. The only thing I’m carrying today is my camera.

Cheers.

Haha…yup, after I turned off my computer I realized you had said that about approving posts. I have heard this about that part of the world, that success is a big nono (until you’re dead) and that we Americans are bizarre for worshipping our successes. Well, we’re all crazy, I say. In honor of the show, it’s nonstop U2 at the internet cafe that is my desk. Have fun!!!
