Question Hour on C-SPAN

Accidentally while flipping through the channels, I stumbled upon British Parliament’s Question Hour. Delegates actually ask the Prime Minister questions. Some serious, some not. People laughed… in a good way. The PM had to answer the questions cold, sans speech writer. It was *fun*. He used words like “I think…” Think. And he said things like Labour’s government may not be always right. I think pigs… forget pigs, blue whales will fly and dance before George W. Bush will ever admit to having been wrong in any way. And that he will ever say anything without saying anything about Freedom or Democracy.

I realise my admiration may be a case of the grass being greener, but I enjoyed that hour they showed and it wasn’t at all like the state House in action or any televised Congress session. Now I have to go refresh my knowledge of parliamentary government. My political science teacher used to be hooked on this stuff and he made us learn it enough to pass the College Board tests. He used to tell us to watch Question Hour on C-SPAN if we were ever up for comedy. He was right, but Question Hour is also an example of the spinning wheels of government with a good dose of fun. At least tonight it was.
