Timeless and Contemporary
I couldn’t have said it better if I’d tried. This is how an SNL viewer described U2 after seeing their performance in November. He called the band beyond others like Springsteen who are “timeless”; he said U2 was both timeless and contemporary. Amazing. They don’t rest on laurels or live through their own legend. They’re still alive and kicking, as much a part of the current music scene as a part of its history over the last 25 years. When U2’s gone, they’ll occupy another position of Those Who Were. But right now, they have their eyes on the modern prizes and not Lifetime Achievement Awards. They live in a 40-year-old’s memories of teen years and in the headphones of an 11-year-old kid. Here. Now.
