New Year’s Day
Why do we celebrate this? Isn’t it, after all, just an arbitrary designation of another of the Earth’s turns around the Sun? Why isn’t New Year’s day, say, August 13th? Or why doesn’t January start in the summer?
I guess people have a right to party, since we all apparently have a right to unlimited pain as well. It’s a sunny, breezy, spring-like day on the East Coast, so have a good one. Happy New Year’s Day to you.
